What to Look for on Business Resumes

There comes that time when we need to hire more people for our business.  Since we have a business that is up and running, and is successful, we want to make sure we hire employees that will keep that flow going.  Therefore, we want good working employees, people that will go above and beyond, and employees that know their stuff.  It would be nice to have all this, but how do you find these people?

Usually when people are looking for a job, they will send in resumes.  When people send in resumes, they give you a good idea whether or not you will want to hire them.  They give you all the information that you’re looking for, and make it a lot easier to distinguish between who you want to hire, and who you don’t.  So, what should you look for when it comes to resumes?  Continue reading below to find out!

Previous Jobs – First, you will want to look at where they’ve previously worked.  Check to see if they’ve stayed there along time.  The longer the employee stays at one place, the better.  This means they haven’t been fired, they worked well with their other companies, and they may be great for your business.

Experience – What kind of experience do they have?  Does their experience help you out with your job that you’ll assign?  Find someone who knows what they’re doing, and is ready to get to work.  The less explaining and training the better.

Skills – What kind of skills do they have?  Usually on their resume, they will talk about what they’re good at.  Sometimes, this can be a huge perk to business owners if it related to their future job.

School – Did they finish high school?  That should be a must.  Did they go to college?  If your job doesn’t require college then don’t make it a requirement obviously, but if it does, be sure to look this over well.

There are a few things to look for when it comes to looking at resumes.  When we hire people, we are giving a part of our business over to someone else to run.  If we have bad employees that can reflect the business poorly, but do the opposite with someone that is a hard worker.
