In today’s technological era, the Internet is a fantastic place to head to when you’re looking to advertise your product.  Not only can you target who you want to push your product to, you can also pick and choose the places that you want to advertise on.  It’s by far the best way to advertise.

If you’re new to online advertising, you’re probably wondering how much the whole process is going to cost you.  What you’re going to find out is that it is going to vary tremendously depending on where you go.

Let’s look at CPM vs. CPC

There are 2 major ways to advertise on the web and that is CPC, which is cost per click or CPM which cost per 1,000 impressions.  With CPM, you could have 1,000 impressions, 500 clicks or 1,000 impressions and 2 clicks and the rate will be the same.

What am I going to pay?

A lot of factors are going to come into play, so it’s really hard to give you a definite answer.  I will give you some tips and pointers on what’s going to determine your price tag.

  • The niche: How competitive is your market?  Are you promoting credit cards or are you promoting something minor such as customized golf balls?  The more competition that you see, the more you’re going to pay.
  • Where you advertise: You can find some private based websites that have very cheap rates.  With major platforms such as Google and Facebook, you will more than likely have to pay per click.  Their formula will be based on the competition and many other factors.
  • How long you advertise: If you’re going to go with a private website, you can get a better rate if you decide that you want to go long term.  Again, this is another factor to throw in.

These are all things to look at when thinking about your price tag.   You could pay as little as .01  a click, or even pay $15 a click.  The category really sets the tone.

How can I get started?

I would start with major players such as Adwords or Facebook.  If you want to advertise on particular niche based websites, find the big dogs in your category and contact them, or better yet, look for an advertising based page on their site.  Make sure you do a cost analysis and know what is best for you.

After advertising on the Internet, you’re soon going to find out that there are so many opportunities.  You can reach out to the people that will love your product and not waste your money in the mean time!
