Web Design Pricing: What Does it Cost?

Every business today is going to need a website and if you don’t have a presence online, you’re really missing out.  Sure, I understand that not everyone can hop on the computer, figure out how to build a website, and go from there.  I understand that it doesn’t work that way.

If you’re looking to build a website for your company, you’re going to want to know how much a website is potentially going to cost.  It’s not as much as you think it is either!

What do you want?

The first thing that you’re going to ask yourself is what you want.  Do you just want a 5 page website with your phone number and a few things explaining what you’re all about?  Do you want a full front e-commerce store?  The more you want and the more advanced it is, the more you’re going to pay.

What has the company accomplished?

If you go with a local company or even a freelancer, you may find that they may be awfully busy, or maybe they just don’t have the time.  These type of people are the ones that charge an arm and leg.  Now keep in mind that just because they charge a lot, it’s not going to mean that you’re going to get a better website.  Always refer to a portfolio to see what someone has done in the past.

Taking a look at average bids

For web design, you’re going to be looking at anywhere from $10 to $225 a hour.  If you want a student, or some Indian overseas to do your work, you will expect to pay less.  On top of that, you’re going to find that the quality won’t be there.

Also, on top of the web design, you’re going to need hosting done, as well as logo designs.  Hosting can run you around $50 a month, depending on your traffic, whereas a logo design company can make you something for as little as $50.

Where to find a design service

In my opinion, if you don’t mind meeting over the computer, I would recommend sites such as Elance.  These type of companies are the best for finding quality work at a lower price.

What you’re going to do is basically throw out your project guidelines and freelancers are going to bid on it.  You will be able to check their history, their portfolio, as well as their feedback score.

Keep in mind that all designers are going to be different.  It really comes down to what you want in the long haul.  Compare prices, as well as meet with them to figure out what you want.
