Ways to Attract Talented Employees
With every business, comes employees and even if you have one or two, they are the heart of your company. If you’re hiring deadbeats, you’re going to find that you’re not running like a well tuned machine. So, what can you do when it comes down to hiring and attracting talented employees? There are a lot of tips that you can use, so let’s get started, shall we?
Your description has to be detailed
When you’re looking for an employee, you can expect a lot of responses especially in a down economy. A simple secretary job can net you 200 resumes within 48 hours and I’m not even close to exaggerating. To weed out those that you don’t want, you have to be as detailed as possible. If you’re looking for a C++ programmer with 5 years experience, it has to be known. Yes, people will still respond without the experience but let it be known that these will be trashed since they are wasting your valuable time.
See what they want in terms of salary
When I’m hiring new people, I won’t even consider them if they don’t tell me what they want. It’s okay to give me a range but this enables me to weed out those that will want too much. Generally, they will already know what they are worth and just by looking at their resume, you should get a good idea on what they are worth as well.
Always call the referrals
So many companies don’t bother calling up referrals or older companies. This is the biggest mistake you can make. Yes, people will lie on their resume and it’s a shame but calling up a company is something that can’t lie about. The first thing you need to do is make sure the company is legit. You may find that they are making up a fake company name and that they will forward a number to a friend that acts like company XYZ. This is something you don’t want. Call up references and the old companies to see what this person is all about.
Sadly, there are a lot of deadbeats out there that just want the money and aren’t willing to put in 100% but by applying these techniques, I can assure you that you can find great talent and hopefully retain them for a long time. When you place your next help wanted ad, try these tips and see what kind of people you can interview.
