TV Advertising: The Pros and Cons
TV advertising can be powerful for any business whether it’s big or small. No matter what market you’re in, you can’t afford to at least look into TV advertising. I know it’s not for everyone but don’t have the assumption that it’s going to cost you an arm and leg to advertise on this platform because it’s not. I’m going to go through some pros and cons that come along with TV advertising and hopefully by the time you read this, you’ll have a good idea on if TV advertising is built for your company.
PROS of advertising on TV –
Reach a HUGE audience – No matter what TV channel you’re advertising on, you’re going to reach a massive audience compared to radio, print, etc. TV has one of the biggest audiences out of all the marketing methods.
You’ll have their attention – When you think of TV commercials, imagine yourself sitting at home watching TV with friends or family. You’re probably sitting there watching and possibly commenting on it or just paying attention if it seems like something interesting. Unlike print and the radio, most of the times users are distracted or just simply glance over it.
You can be visual – Unlike radio and print or any other method, with TV, you can be visual. You can show your product, you can show colors, actions, ways to use it, etc. This is great for anyone want to display a product. It’s awfully hard to do this when you have the radio or newspaper since you’re limited to only so much.
Great for branding – TV is a great way to brand your product and there’s no better way than to create your brand than by creating a jingle. If you think of any jingles whether they are local companies or nationally known companies, branding is an important part of any business and I highly recommend you look into it before considering TV advertising.
CONS of advertising on TV –
Need a high budget – TV commercials don’t come cheap. You’re going to need to hire actors, writes, film editors, and on top of that, you’re going to need to buy the advertising space. It makes TV one of the most expensive advertising avenues to test.
Needs constant changing – Unlike newspaper or radio where you can get a voice over have them change promotions, etc. TV is completely different. You’ll need start from zero all over again and create an ad that will cater to your sales, etc. Remember, repetition doesn’t work with TV so you’ll always need to change your TV ad here and there.
Targetting can be tough – If you’re in a niche market, it may be tough to find your audience sometimes but not all the time. You may find that you’ve invested all your money into one TV station but it just doesn’t work. TV is just like any other media where you need to test, test, and test.
TV has many great advantages and if you can afford it, I highly recommend you try it out. It can either bring you lots of success or you may fail. It all depends on your ad copy, who you’re targeting, what you’re promoting, and so many other factors. I suggest you try print and radio before you hit the big time like TV. Find what works with those and then apply it toward TV.
