Starting a Home Based Business

work at home bizWorking from home is everyone’s dream, and if you have enough motivation, and you take action, your dream really can come true.  If you have good work ethics, and a great idea, you’re already on the road to working for yourself, rather than working the 9-5.

So, what do you need to know when it comes down to starting your own business?

Develop your plan - The first thing that you want to do is develop your plan.  There are some many work at home ideas, it’s frightening.  Explore all of the possibilities, and see what works for you.  I would recommend that you do something that you truly love, so that you can keep an interest in it.  Check out a post I made a while back titled “Most profitable small businesses” to get more ideas.

Can you do it alone? When you think of a business idea, are you going to be able to do it alone?  If you’re planning on running a drop shipping business out of your house, you may need some people to man the phones.  When you develop a business plan, you should get a good idea right away if you need someone to help, or not.

Know about the estimated taxes – Ah yes, the taxes.  When it comes time to look at your profits, don’t forget that you’re going to have to send in the estimated taxes to Uncle Sam.  Every 4 quarters, about 30-40% of your money is going to go to the government.  Yes, sounds like a high number, but how do you think they can feed the people on welfare?

Design your office - Your home will now be your workplace, and if you’re like me, you don’t want to work in the living room, but instead, you’ll want to work from the comforts of your own office.  This is when you’ll want to take a room in your house, and transform it into your very own office.

Insure yourself – Once you get away from that 9-5, you’re going to find that you have no health insurance anymore.  Your best bet is to get your own health insurance plans.   Check out services like eHealthInsurance to find a plan that fits your budget.

These are all tips to consider when you’re ready to start a home based business.  It can be a fun, yet a stressful time, but if you work hard enough, your dreams will come true!
