Setting Up a Business 101

Setting up a business can be rough, no matter what industry you’re getting yourself into.  Obviously, you’re going to find that some industries may be easier than others, but you’re also going to find you may want to give up before you even start!

You just have to remember that a good business owner is separated from a poor business owner by motivation, and the drive to succeed.  If you don’t have those qualities, you’re going to find that it’s going to be hard to make a profit in the business world.

Setting up a business and getting on the right path

What industry are you getting yourself into?

The first, and the most important thing that you want to do is know what you want to do.  Without an industry in mind, it’s going to be awfully hard to move forward.  You also want to make sure that you know your competition, where you’ll be located, your profit margins, and the list goes on, and on.  I think you get the point that you need a specific business plan.

How are you going to fund this business?

Yes, 99% of the time, it’s going to take money to make money, and if you don’t have any money to start, you’re going to find that it’s going to be very hard to get your business up, and off the ground.  So, the question here is, “How are you going to fund your business?”  There are many ways to fund your business out there.  From a credit card, to your own cash reserves, you’ll want to set up a budget, and stick with it.  My word of advice is that you always guess more than what you need, so that you’re not surprised in the long run.

How are you going to advertise?

With your business plan, you will also need to know how to advertise properly.  Since most of your business at the beginning will be from flyers, etc, you’re going to find that word of mouth will help your business tremendously.   Before you start your business, it’s a good idea to jot down some ideas on where you want to start.

These are three simple questions, but I can go on, and on.  It’s up to you to do the right research, and create a business plan.  You’ll find out that a simple blog post like this won’t get you far.
