Save Paper at your Business
Saving paper is a great way to save the environment, obviously. If you don’t think your business or workplace is doing a good job at it, there are plenty of ways to save the trees! As technology grows over the next decade, we will see less and less paper leaving the workplace. I thought up of a few tips that may help you save paper at your business.
Use technology – As I already mentioned, instead of writing that note to your co-worker, send them an e-mail, if you can do it. E-mail won’t waste the trees! If you don’t have access to e-mail, try the phone instead.
Watch what you print- Sometimes we find ourselves printing things up that we don’t even need. The next time you go to print something out, think to yourself if you need to print it or not. Sometimes you may find its easier to just save it on your computer for future reference.
Use old paper – If you have old papers laying around the office, flip them over and use the white space as scrap paper. If you have to jot some notes down, you can use the scrap paper instead of the good stuff. It would be ideal to create a box with the title “scrap paper” on it so that the workers know where to find it.
Recycle it – As simple as it sounds, you can simply recycle the paper. Find a local recycling center. Where I live here in Michigan, they have recycling bins at all of the elementary schools. If you find that the papers are going to be confidential, that’s fine. All they ask is that you shred it and put it in a trash bag and seal it shut.
Create things online – Do you have an office manual at work? Do you have other forms that employees need to look at? Instead of printing everything up and handing them out, have them sit at a computer and look at the manual on the screen. If they have questions, they can simply e-mail it themselves for future use.
Online statements – If you work with customers, you may want to look at sending them the statements through e-mail. This is not only going to save you time and effort, it will also save you money from buying paper. Look into the different pieces of software out there that can help you business become more green.
With the Internet and technology on how it is today, it’s not hard to recycle more paper. In fact, if you look back 10 years ago or so, things have changed a lot! These are just a few things you can do in order to make your workplace a recycle friendly environment.
