Pros and Cons of Owning a Business
Owning a business can be the best thing you’ve done with your life, but like anything in life, everything you do will have it’ s pros and cons. While some have a lot more upside than downsides, it’s always smart to compare the positives and negatives.
When it comes down to owning a business, I thought I would write up a quick pros and cons in regards to opening up your own business.
The pros of owning your own business
- Be your own boss: Just think that no one is going to boss you around. You set your own hours, you run the store the way you want it, you can boss around the people below you.
- The sky is the limit: When it comes to money, I love this as a business owner. I can make as much money as possible, as compared to a company where you’re only allowed to make so much per month.
- You’ll enjoy your work: If you open up a business where you play around with your hobby, you’ll actually enjoy what you do. Unlike a dead end job, you may regret going every morning you wake up.
- Networking: With a business, I love the idea of meeting other people in the field. Not only will you educate yourself, you’ll get to know how the business world runs.
The cons of running your own business
- No job security: In the beginning, you may find that you’re barely making ends meet. As time goes on though, and profits rise, your security may rise.
- Lots of work hours: As a business owner, your business is going to be your life. You may find that you’re going to have to work more than 40 hours a week to keep your business running, and going strong.
- Making enemies: You’re going to find that you’re going to hire some duds. Needless to say, you’re going to have to fire them, discipline them, and more. You have to separate your emotions when it comes down to business.
These are just a few examples when it comes down to owning your own business. Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into before you start, because as I mentioned, you’re going to find that every business varies when it comes to owning one.
