Ways to Market a Gym

Every once in a while, you’ll find that I love to write about creative ways on how to market a particular brand of company.  If you’re currently running one of these companies or you plan on opening one up, I’m going to show you a few creative ideas you can use in order to drive more business into your place.  Since all businesses are different, some marketing strategies may not work with other types of businesses.

Today, let’s focus on some great ways on how you can market a gym or health club.  Millions of people every year are looking for ways to exercise, get in shape, etc and there’s no better place to go than a gym.  As long as you offer a reasonable price, you have the right equipment, and enough space to work out, you’re going to have customers for life.

Ask to write for a local paper – Look for the little local paper in your area and explain to them that you own a gym and would love to write fitness articles for free.  All you ask in return is that they simply let you leave your place of business in every article you write.  If you know what you’re talking about, people that are reading the paper may want to check out your business.  Mention in the article that you have certain promotions going on, etc.

Do charity work – Offer to open your gym up to charities and let the local media know about it.  Offer people to compete in contests where the money goes to their favorite charity, etc.  You can also offer gym memberships as door prizes as well to the person that does the most push-ups, etc.  Whenever you do anything that relates to charity, the media will eat it up.

Offer free speeches – Let the neighborhood know that you offering free seminars that can be hosted at your gym.  When you host them, you can talk about the importance of fitness training, how to lose weight in a certain amount of time, etc.  Let the people know that they can get a great deal if they sign up that day.  Offer a one day special encouraging the members to sign up.

Offer free trials – Most gyms won’t bite on this one but offer a one month free membership, not just a one day thing.  Most people will take you up on this offer.  What happens is that most members will attend your gym, get into a routine and they forget all about it being free.  Once it’s time to re-new, they most likely will if they have enjoyed their experience.  Remember, you can draw people in with a free membership but if you don’t offer enough experience, etc, they may not join at the end.

Whether you own a gym today or you currently own one, there are so many things you can do to get people in the door.  Use your imagination.  As long as you offer a great product and you have a great staff, you’ll see repeat customers month after month.
