Making a Business Grow During a Recession

Growing a business during a recessionA recession is tough and regardless of how this world turns, we are always going to see one.  Some are bad, some are good but this is America and we run in cycles.  No matter what kind of business you run during a recession, you’re going to hurt because when people don’t spend money, they don’t spend money on anything.  There are ways though that you can grow your business even though the economy is in the tubes.

Never stop promoting – Never ever stop promoting your business when the economy is bad.  You always have to get your name out there one way or another.  Use major sources like TV, radio, newspaper, and more.  You’ll find that running ads during a recession are cheaper than when the economy is actually doing great.  The lesson in the end is to make sure that you advertise no matter what the situation is.

Get promotional items – Even if you’re business isn’t doing that hot, still go out there and spread the word.  Go to hot spots like the mall, parks, beaches or wherever.  Hand out magnets, key chains, t-shirts.  Do anything you can to just get your name out there.  Who knows?  Maybe when the economy picks up again, people will think of you and come back to get your business.

Find new employees – With the big companies cutting back, there are literally thousands of talented people out in the job banks.  What do people usually do when they are desperate for a job?  They are willing to take more money.  If you’re thinking about hiring, go out there and find who’s available.  You’ll be amazed with the job talent out there.

Always treat your customers like gold – The current customers you have now must be treated like gold.  The better you treat your customers, the more they will spread the word about you.  Don’t just give up on the economy and not treat the customers you have now bad.  Instead, think of other ways to better your relationship with them.

A recession doesn’t last forever.  As long as you keep that positive attitude, you’re going to go in that direction.  If you think negatively, you’re going to place negative thoughts with your business.  Create goals, plan for the worst and hope for the best.  Any successful business owner will tell you that business isn’t 100% all the time.
