Make Money as a 1099 Employee (Contractor)

You’ve decided to break away from the 9-5 life, and that’s great, but now you have a rough road ahead of you.  One of the hardest parts of starting up your own business, or working as a contractor is gaining ground.  Yes, you’re going to make money, but you’re not going to make right off the bat.

Today, I want to show you exactly how you can make money as an independent contractor, and succeed at it for life.

Know your expertise

What do you want to do as an independent contractor?  You want to look at your skill set, and see what you can do to make money with it.  Everyone in this world has some sort of skill, and if you want to learn more, that’s what the Internet, as well as college is for.

Plan your budget

You can get a fair idea on what you’re going to make job, by job simply by doing research online, or calling up businesses.  If you want to know what some businesses charge, you can call them up, and act as if you’re a potential customer.  If you’re going to be working as an hourly rate contractor, you will want to set a hourly rate.

People love to be negative

Before I got started with my business, there was nothing but negativity online.  People love to be negative, and love to see people fail.  Guess what?  The people that fail are the ones who don’t try.  As long as you motivate yourself, and think positive, you can get a lot accomplished, trust me on this one.  Once you start thinking negative, this is when everything fails.  Just think about this for a second, “There are 6 billion+ people on this Earth.”, how can you not succeed?

How are you going to get customers?

Just like a business, you’re going to want to know of ways to get customers.  Are you going to use word of month, services like Elance, or are you going to just simply go door to door with flyers?  There are so many ways to advertise, and if you don’t know where to start with advertising, I highly recommend the book, “Guerrilla Marketing“.

As long as you keep up to date with technology, and you pay your taxes, your business should grow faster than you expect.  Keep your head up high, don’t listen to negative feedback, and soar above the rest, you can do it!
