518690_magazines_2With all the different ways of advertising out there, it is hard to know what will work best for your business.  There are several different ways to advertise including, direct mail, newspaper ads, specialty advertising and the list goes on.  Although, have you thought about magazine advertising at all?  Magazine is another type of advertising that either works extremely well or not at all.  So how do you know if it will work or not?  To make things easier and to give you a better idea, continue reading below to see if it is worth trying.

Find an audience – First you want to find an audience that you want to advertise for.  Do you want to draw the attention of children, the elderly or middle age adults or someone else in between?  This is the first thing you want to think about.  Will your audience even be interested in magazines?

What magazine – Lets say you want to draw the attention of middle age women.  Now, the question is, what magazines do they read?  This is probably the most important thing to figure out.  Ask around and find out the answers based on your friends and family.

Where at? – Where at in the magazine do you want to advertise?  Do you want to advertise in the front where they will mostly look or in the back where they tend not to pay attention to and don’t even get that far?  It is important to consider this as well.

Does it compare? – Another thing, does your business even compare to the magazine at all?  Lets say you’re selling hiking items and you’re advertising in a Cosmopolitan magazine, you’re probably not going to do real well.  You want to find a magazine that will compare.

How much? – Now, how much will an ad cost?  Find out if you can afford it and if you feel comfortable paying the amount.  If you’re business isn’t doing so well don’t fish out a lot of money if you’re already struggling to pay for your daily needs.

Competitors – Do you think you will have a lot of competitors around the area of your ad page?  If so, that may be a lot of competition.  If you do, how are you going to make it better than your competitors.

Is it worth it? – Is your ad going to be worth it? Lets say you get 5 customers due to it, will that pay for the ad and even more?  Also, is it a good ad?  Does it have a place to contact you for further information and does it get the point across?  These are all very important because with out this information your ad won’t be worth your customers time.

Although all advertising is worth a shot, it is the expensive factor that turns people away.  So do you think magazine advertising will work for you?  If so, give it a shot, but before you make any decisions be sure to consider these points listed above just one more time.
