List of Small Business Ideas

I think the hardest part of starting a business is thinking of an idea.  I see so many people start up a business, and then figure out down the road that it wasn’t built for them.  Why did they fail?  They failed because they went after the money, rather than developing a plan that works for their interests.  Trust me, if you follow your interests, you’ll be able to make a lot more money, rather than when you chase the money.

When it comes to ideas, I scoured the web, and a few books to come up with I thought were the best business ideas in the 2000s.

  • Start a franchise: Franchises might be one of the easiest businesses to start up.  You already have a plan, and a brand that is built.  Check out our list of franchises page for more information.
  • eBay: Find a drop shipper like SaleHoo, sell your product on eBay, and profit from it.
  • Freelance work: With services like Elance.com, you can freelance with just about anything.  Take your skill, and help other people out.  From writing, to programming, it’s all there.
  • Day care: If you love to work with kids, start up a day care in your own home.
  • Pet sitting: Just like the day care, if you love animals, you can offer to watch other people’s pets, while away or on vacation.
  • Event planner: Big corporations need people that help plan events.  Plan parties, organize events, and more.
  • Tutoring: You don’t have to be the smartest person in the world, but parents usually kill to have someone that knows what they are talking about.
  • Handyman service: Are you good around the house?  Start up a simple handyman service, and fix things for other people.

This list could go on, and on, and could potentially reach millions of ideas (I’m not joking)   Be creative, do your homework, and find a great business that works for you.
