Leadership Styles: Taking Advantage
Being a strong business manager, and owner is not only going to help your business grow, it’s going to keep your employees in place, ensuring you that your business is going to run on the right path.
Taking a basic business course
Although being an entrepreneur who is fairly successful myself way before taking any business based course I was given the opportunity to take them and learned several new ways to manage employees. I really believe this is the key to being successful; there are many great ideas out there a lot of them as simple. By knowing basic management skills you can guide your staff to work hard.
Hiring people who fit your company
In order to properly motivate people, I’m a firm believer that they have to want to be motivated to begin with. One aspire of a manager’s job is the ability to motivate his employees to see the company vision and do their job to the best of their ability. This is much more difficult if you hire the wrong people, someone who is a vegetarian isn’t going to work well in the poultry business. Make sure your employees are a good fit for your company, and not just because they are nice people.
Be friendly but slightly stern
A manager must be respected by his employees and be willing to crack the whip if necessary. It’s a good thing to befriend your employees but have the ability to be to tell them when something is wrong or their performance is not up to the company’s standards or expectations. This is a huge problem for a lot of managers who become personal friends with their staff and then when it comes time to discipline some of them they run into conflict because their personal relationship is swaying their professional one.
Be emotionally strong
Being a small business owner can be very harsh at times, it’s very difficult to lose focus or become discouraged particularly during tough economic times. You must be always focused and aware of your goals, life is an upward battle.
