How to Write a Business Letter

Creating a business letterWriting a business letter isn’t the hardest thing in the world and if you’re finding that you have to write one out to someone, don’t start to worry! Instead, I will give you some simple pointers on how you can write the best letter that there is.

First, you’re going to gather up some information before we even start.  You’re going to need the name, address, as well as the reason why you’re going to write this letter.  Whether you’re going to thank someone, or write up a proposal, etc.

Listed below is the format that you’re going to want to start out with when creating a business letter…

RETURN ADDRESS
DATE

(return 4 times)

ADDRESS TO RECEIPIENT

(return 2 times)

Salutation (Dear Mr. Jones)

This is where you will insert the body.  With your body, you’re going to want to have 1 to 2 inch side margins.  Single space your body like I am now, and make sure that you break up your paragraphs.  You don’t want to have to much, but instead you will want to keep it short and simple.

Sincerely,

4 spaces

Your name

This is really it.  You just want to keep it simple, and make sure that you print out your letter on professional letterhead.  What you’re going to find out is that even if you’re a small business, it doesn’t mean that you have to act small.    Online shops such as Amazon have a great selection of business paper that you can choose from.  Look for the highest rated pieces of paper and go from there.

Grammar and spelling are also going to be a huge factor as well.  As long as you read it, and allow someone else to check it out before you send it out, you should be fine.  Again, don’t go on, and on because most people don’t want to weed through 8 paragraphs of non-sense.
