How to Work at Home with Kids
A lot of people in today’s world work from home. In fact, the numbers are staggering and they grow every day. Why is this, you might ask? It’s quite simple. As we progress with the Internet, more and more companies are finding that they can simply have someone work from home. As the Internet grows, so do start up at home companies. There’s no better way than to start a business at home. It requires next to no capital and it’s a very easy to learn. It just takes time and a lot patience.
In today’s modern day era, you’re going to find that a lot of people are working from home, but they have kids. How does one work with kids you might ask? It’s only hard, if you make it hard. Let’s look at some pointers on how you can make it easier for yourself and your family.
You need to have a routine set in place
I know you don’t want to work the 9-5 grind, and you want the freedom from working at home, that’s great. If you want to work from home, you need to set a routine with your kids. I don’t know how old they are, but you need to show them how important it is that you work. If they are younger, that’s understandable and this is when you need a schedule. Schedule feeding times, nap times, etc. This way, you’ll know when you can work.
Work around the house
In today’s world, you don’t have to work from a desktop. Instead, why not work from a laptop? The reason I like laptops so much is that I can hook up my laptop to my monitor and it acts as if it were a desktop. The cool thing now is that I can take the laptop around the house and watch my kids in any room.
Why not hire them?
Yes, there are child labor laws, I know but that shouldn’t stop you from having them help you with little projects. Have them feel like they are apart of your business. Not only will this teach them great work ethics, it will keep them entertained. No, you don’t have to work them 8 hours a day, because 1 hour should be just fine.
Work isn’t all the time
I know it’s hard to work out of the house but you have to remember that you have a family. In my world, family comes first, followed by work. Money can’t buy you a family, and before you know it, your kids are going to grow up right beneath you. Make sure that you spend quality time with them as much as you can.
Have your own office away from them
We all know how pesky little kids can be. When you have your home office, try your best in keeping your office away from everything else. Lock away anything important and also make sure that you protect your computer, so that they can’t harm anything.
Kids can’t be ignored completely, but there are tips you can take like the ones I’ve mentioned above. Try your best when it comes down to making your home kid friendly while working. As long as you treat family first, followed by work, you shouldn’t have a problem working with kids at home.
