How to Start a Summer Day Camp

The summer is here, and what better way than to start up a summer day camp, and have kids come and have fun.  If you plan on opening up a business like this, there are so many perks, in which you will actually start to enjoy making money.  From watching kids be excited, to keeping them entertained while they are away from home.  Not only are those great perks, it’s only going to be a seasonal job.

Know your state laws: Before you run out, and start up your program, you want to know exactly what you can, and can’t do when it comes to the state laws.  Since you’re going to be running a daycare out of your business, you need to know what the state is going to allow you to do.

Advertising is key: With a summer camp, you’re going to want to start things up early.  Since your camp is going to most likely run from June to August, you’ll want to start advertising in April to May.  These are great times to start getting the word out to parents, and kids about your upcoming camp.  If you advertise too late, you may not get the attendance that you’ve required.

Have to be competitive: Just like any other business, what is your day camp going to offer, that no other camp is going to have?  If you’re charging too much, and you don’t have a lot to offer, you’re going to find that no one is going to come to your camp.  If you have a lot to offer for a lower price, this may be a great way to get people in to join the camp for the summer.

Offer discounts and coupons: For the first time camp goers, offer them a great deal, and discount.  This way, you can get people into your camp to see if they like it.  If they like it, and they want to join it next year, you can offer it to them at full price.

Know what they want: If you’re going to open up a camp, you have to make it fun.  No kid wants to come, and can’t wait to go home.  You want them to forget about home, and focus more on how much fun they are truly having.  Summer day camps are all over, some boring, and some fun!

If you plan on opening a summer day camp, know what the kids want, and set a great price.  If your camp is a hit, you may find that you can make some pretty good money.  If you find out that it’s a dud, you’re going to find that you may have to shut the doors.  Like any business, test some things, and see what works.
