How to Start a Small Business

Are you planning on starting your own business in the near future?  If so, you may have several questions that need to be answered and a few steps on advice to get things going.  Starting your own business really isn’t that hard there are just a few things you need to do to get it started and a few things to keep in mind.

Business Ideas – First, you’re going to want to think of a business idea.  Choosing a business idea is good to base it off things you enjoy doing, your hobbies or something that interests you.  Also, you can either choose a franchised business or start up your own.  Once you have this all figured out, you’re ready for the next step.

Business plans – Now that you have your business idea, you’re going to want to think more along the lines of your business plans.  If you need funding to start your business you’re going to need to think of a great plan.  Before the lenders hand over the money to you that want to make sure your plan seems successful.  So, try writing out an outline of what how much money you need and how it will be spent.

Also, with this plan, try to think of ways you’re going to promote your business and what advertising or marketing strategies you will use.

Financing – When you go to get that extra money you need for your business you most likely will have three different options to choose from.  Financing usually comes in friends & family, bank loans or investors.  Do you have a plan on which one you would like to use?  Spend some time on this and think of a good way to get that extra money.

You’re on your way – So by this step you should have your business idea, your business plan and your financial information straight.  One of the last things you have to do is choose a legal structure.  The main legal structures to choose from are corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships.  Once you choose who you want to finance through you will have a better idea for what legal structure you will choose.  Once you’ve chosen, you can now file to incorporate and obtain a federal identification number through the state.

Final stage – Finally! You’ve got all that mess cleared and all your plans ready.  Now comes the fun part.  Where do you want to hold your business?  Can you work from home?  Do you need employees?  If so, how many?  Will you need an accountant to handle all your bookkeeping?  What items do you need to start up and help create a business atmosphere?

Starting up a business isn’t really that hard.  It takes a little bit of work in the beginning but once you get past those major steps in the beginning you’ll be on a role and on the road to making money in no time!  Good luck and consider these tips to for guidance.
