How to Get a Free Business Class Upgrade

As a business owner, you may find yourself traveling a lot via the great blue skies.  Whether you’re flying for a meeting in another state, or maybe you’re thinking about opening up another shop somewhere, any business savvy person will tell you that business class is  a rip off.

Why should you pay 10 times more for a ticket, when you can sit in coach for less?  Sure, you get a few perks in the “business class” section, but is really worth an extra thousand dollars?

If you’re looking to get a free business class upgrade, let’s take a look at how it can be done.

Be loyal to your airline: The first thing that you want to do is become loyal to a particular airline.  You never want to ask for an upgrade, when you don’t hold a frequent flyer card.  If you show that you car about the airline, this is going to increase your odds.  If you want to take it even further, consider signing up for an airline credit card.

Consider a small airport: Your major airport hubs around your city are going to be packed.  Of course, with statistics, you’re going to find that this is going to decrease your odds at landing an upgrade.  Try flying out of your smaller airports to increase your odds of landing that upgrade.

Think small again: Now that I think about it, try and think small with everything, including the airlines.  If you’re loyal to a massive airline such as Delta, you’re going to find that the masses are going to fly with them.  Consider flying smaller brands.  Again, if you want free upgrades all the time, this can work for you.

Dress “smart”: This isn’t going to help you necessarily, but it doesn’t hurt.  Just don’t come walking in, looking like you just woke up.  Instead, you’ll want to dress smart, and look nice.  This can help your chances, when you’re ready to ask for that upgrade.

When you go up to the counter to ask for an upgrade, just ask nicely, and throw in, “Do you need my frequent flyer number, or my airline credit card number?”  This can show your loyalty, and increase your chances again.  It doesn’t hurt to ask, because the worst thing that they can say is, “no!”
