When you hear of the word, “radio” today, you probably think of an old school media outlet.  Sure, while many people really don’t tune into the FM / AM dial anymore, it doesn’t mean that you can’t advertise on it.

As long as the masses flock to something, there is always going to be advertise on it.  Just think of it for a second.  The radio station is going to get money to run so that you can enjoy what you’re listening to.  Hey, you might even be able to find something that you want to buy by listening to an ad.

Know where you want to advertise

The first thing that you want to look into is where you want to advertise.  There are a lot of plaforms that you can advertise with.  Listed below are a few options that you can explore.

  • Podcasts (great way to reach a niche audience)
  • AM / FM Radio
  • Satellite radio
  • Internet Radio
  • iPhone / Android radio applications

These are probably the main ones.  Its really up to you to decide on which one you would want to advertise with.

How can I get my ads started?

Google once has a fantastic system in place where you could automate the process.  You would pick your demographic, the radio genre, as well as when you wanted to advertise.  To take their place, it looks as if WideOrbit bought them out.  Using a third party service such as this one is a great way to purchase your ads and get the message out to people.

Another way to advertise is by contacting the radio directly.  While this can take time, you can get the best deal by doing this.   What you can do is think of local radio stations that will fit you demographic.  This works great if you’re advertising a local product.

What am I going to pay?

This is all going to depend on the market, as well as the market share.  I was digging around with some numbers and you’re going to find that your morning drive, as well as afternoon drive is going to draw the most traffic in terms of listeners.

The range for a 30 second spot is going to range greatly.  I would expect that you could pay as little as $40-60, all the way up to $1,000s for a 30 second spot on a major radio show.  You would have to contact a local radio station to get exact rates, as they will always be different.

When ready to advertise on the radio, set your budget, think of your demographic, as well as get a radio ad created that is not only unique, but sells what you’re offering.  By doing so, let’s hope for the best for both you and your business!
