How Do I Get my Business Trademarked
When you’re ready to open up shop, and create a name, you may find that you want to trademark your name, so that no one can steal it from you. In order to get your name trademarked, there are some particular steps that you should follow, in order to make sure you name never gets taken, or stolen.
Make sure it’s available: The first step you want to take is to make sure that the name isn’t taken. You can either do this by doing a quick search online using the TESS system which can be found here.
Head to USPTO.GOV: I’ve already mentioned it in the first point, but you’ll want to head to this website to get started. Right when you hit the website, you’ll see a “Where Do I Start?” link. You’ll want to click on that, and start your process.
What are you trademarking? The next thing that you’ll want to do is write up a little description on your product, or service. This is to let the Trademark office know exactly what you’ll want to trademark. If you don’t include a description, you may not get your trademark.
File your report: Once you’re done going through the search, and description, the next step you’ll want to take is by filling out an application. This can either be done online, or it can be done via the phone. Make sure that you have a credit card handy, since there will be a application processing fee.
Wait for your response: After you submit your application, you’re going to have to wait for a response. The wait time will all depend on how busy the office is with applications.
By following these steps above, you should have a better idea on where to start. If you want to get more information in depth on trademarks, be sure to visit the websites below for more information.
