Designing your Own Business Card
You’ve either started up your own business or you’re looking to start one. One of the most crucial parts of your business is going to be your business card. This is how you’re going to network with people. If you don’t have one, you’re probably missing out on so many opportunities! Let’s put it this way. Let’s say you go out to eat and you start talking with another person while you’re waiting for dinner. He’s interested in what you do but you have no way to tell him how to contact you. Are you going to write it on a napkin? No, that’s unprofessional. Instead, you should spend a few bucks and invest into a few hundred business cards.
Creating a business card isn’t hard at all. In fact, I’ll tell you exactly what you’re going to need in order to have an effective business card that will drive visitors to your business. Your business card doesn’t need to be flashy but it does need to have a few things in order for people to contact you.
List your company name – Somewhere on the card, preferably on the top, you’re going to want to list the company name with a small slogan. Let them know what you do. If you’re an auto mechanic and your company name is Ted’s Auto Repair. Have it say the company name and under that, write something along the lines of “specializing in auto repair.” This way, if someone comes back to that card in the future, they will know exactly what business it is.
Your name – One of the most important part of your business card is your name. You don’t want someone calling you up and not knowing who to ask for. Simply put your name along with your title. So if you’re Ted and you’re the owner. Simply put Ted Jones, Owner / CEO, etc. Do whatever works for you.
Have more contact information – With today’s world, there are so many ways to keep in contact but let’s stick with the three simple ways of contact. This is your address, e-mail (if you have one), and phone number. That way if someone wants to visit, they know where you live. If they want to call, they know who to call and if they simply want to send you a note, they know who to e-mail.
Business cards are meant to be very simple. You don’t want to clutter it will crazy designs and bright colors. Your only goal is to simply have something for a prospective client. You may add other optional things such as a picture, a notable award you may have won, etc. A business card can almost be treated like a sales copy. If you haven’t already started your business card yet, I suggest you do so! You need to start networking the professional way.
