Every once in a while, I like to talk about specific business examples.  There are so many business ideas out there, but what I have found out is that there are a few that many people are interested in, such as a Coffee Shop.

What makes a coffee shop interesting is that you will be able to not only draw in a lot of repeat business, but you can expand it into other ventures such as a little bakery, internet cafe and more.

If you want to open up a coffee shop, here are some things to think about, when thinking about opening one.

Who you’re going to market to

First, you’re going to want to know your target audience.  While we want to think that everyone drinks coffee, this isn’t the case.  Now, if you look at a bigger coffee shop such as Starbucks, you will notice that they offer more than just that.  This is why you will want to potentially market to everybody.

What is going to make you unique?

There’ s a coffee shop on just about every corner and when you’re dealing with the likes of Starbucks, and more, how are you going to compete with them?  While I’m not the most creative person in the world, you’re going to want to do what your competition does, and make it better.

The location is critical

With just about any business plan, you already know that your location is crucial.  If you don’t have the right location, your business is going to fail.  This is where most people make the mistake, and pick out a location that is cheap.  You can’t be cheap with your location, as you will find that the price tag is cheap for a reason.

The layout

Just like the location, you’re going to want a layout that is going to work for you as well.  Be sure to pick out a big enough building that is going to cater to those that want to stay, and do business and more.  To get a good idea, it doesn’t hurt to check out other coffee shops.

The product that you’re selling

Coffee is coffee at most places, but you don’t want to be bland, and boring.  Instead, you’re going to want to create some unique products that will keep coming back.  Make sure that your employees follow a strict plan, so that the product tastes the same, every time a customer comes in.

Marketing the business

Every business needs to market, and without the marketing up front, your business can slide fast.  Just like creating a unique business, you’re going to want to create a unique marketing strategy as well.   You will want to consider business cards, newspaper ads, social media online as well.

While these are just the basics to get started, it’s going to take a long time to get your business up, and running.  A fantastic business plan can be found here, if you want a real life example.  There are also a lot of books you can look at here as well.
