5 Ways to Have a Great Business Catalog

Whether you’re running a brick and mortar shop, or maybe you have an e-commerce shop, you’re still going to find that a lot of people still like to shop through catalogs.

Sure, it sounds like an older school technique and while it is in a way, it’s a great way to reach your older audience.  When I think of this audience, I almost picture my grandmother for a second.  When she’s bored in front of the TV, she will flip through some of the catalogs that she gets in the mail.

After she’s done flipping through, she will put them on her nightstand, where others will read it.  These tend to be a great way to spread the word about your business.

While sending out catalogs can be awfully expensive, you can see a great return on investment, particularly those that are return customers.

Listed below are 5 things that you should know about catalogs.  What you’re going to find out is that if you follow some of these tips, you may be able to create a rather successful catalog.

Saving money may show – As a business owner, you want to cut costs in every corner and I can understand that.  If you show cost cutting measures in every corner, the reader may be able to see this.  The lesson here is to spend money where you want to see a great investment.

Offer an incentive - A buyer could see your catalog and not be interested, but what if you throw a coupon on the front page or maybe even a freebie?  You’ve seen those catalogs where you can spend $50 and get a free gift.  It’s all about split testing.  Find something that is going to work.

Keep it simple - Don’t clutter your catalog and don’t make it confusing.  Make each item stand out.  You will always want to offer a simple description, a price, as well as a picture.  In today’s technological era, you can also send them to your website as well.

A cool idea that I thought of when it comes to a website is that you can have a separate catalog page.  On that page, the viewer can simply input the number and once they input the item number, it goes straight to that product, where in turn, they can purchase it.

It has to be easy to order - If I’m looking at your catalog, I want to know how to order.  Most catalogs put an order page in the middle of their book.  This is a great way, but make sure you make it extremely easy for them to put down what they want, as well as ways to pay.  Again, it’s not a bad idea to send them to your website.

Use the right wording - I would highly advise that you get a copywriter to help you write your catalog.  You will want people to want to purchase those items, rather than read it.  A copywriter is a fantastic investment for your company and you can see very good long term results.

A great way to get ideas is to simply look at successful catalog companies.  99% of the time, they are free.  Order one up, compare, steal ideas, and make them better.  Split test and let’s hope that this is another alternative that you can add to your business!
