Bad Small Business Habits

Owning a small business isn’t a walk in the park.  In fact, it’s some pretty hard work and if you don’t put your heart into your business, you’re going to find yourself in the unemployment line in no time.  With every good business owner, there always comes a bad one.  Are you one of those bad business owners?  There are some sins that you never follow and here they are –

You’re all over the place- Are you finding yourself offering a million services and you just can’t keep up with anything?  Instead of opening a store that does everything from plumbing to electrical work, focus on one niche and master it.  If your focus is on a million different little projects, you’re just going to stress yourself out and this is when things get bad.

You do everything – When you’re a small business owner, you shouldn’t do all the work.  Instead, try and outsource most of your work to other people.  Owning your own business should be a treat, not a chore 24/7.  Get into the habit of hiring your own employees and not doing all the work 24/7.  If you do this, you’re just going to stress yourself out even more.

You’re not focusing – Sometimes it’s nice to be a business owner but if you find yourself playing more than you are working, that’s going to be a big problem.  If you simply don’t have the discipline, you’re not going to make it as a business owner.  Instead, learn how to set a schedule and stick to it.  There’s always room for play but your work habits should be top notch.

Not having a backup plan – Do you have a back-up plan if your business is failing?  Most business owners don’t when it comes to business.  When you run your business, it’s important to realize that you should always have a plan B just in case plan A fails.  This way, if everything does go downhill, you’ll be able to pull out your backup plan and still succeed.

Too much research, no action- Are you finding yourself reading too much and not taking enough action?  If so, you’re already on the road to failure.  So many people online or even in person consistently ask questions and not take action.  It’s better to find what works for you instead of constantly asking others.  Sure, it’s nice to research here and there but make sure you do more work than research.

There are many reasons on why a small business fails but 99% of the time, it’s the owners fault.  As long as you’re not doing the things mentioned above and you have a great game plan, you’ll do just fine.  Take action, work hard, and great things will come your way.
