Advantages of Business Credit Cards

Building business creditStarting a business can be frustrating when you don’t have that much money.  That is why many businesses result to using a business credit card.  Business credit cards have their upsides and downsides but if you use them the correct way, you’ll find that they have many more advantages than dis-advantages.

Higher limits than personal – If you look at your own personal credit card limit as of today, you’ll probably realize that your credit limits aren’t the greatest.  Personal credit limits can vary anywhere from $500 to as much as the sky basically.  Let’s say you have a $5,000 personal credit card limit.  If you apply for a business credit card in your name, you may find that the bank is willing to give you a $25,000 limit instead.  This will make it much easier for you and your purchasing power when it comes to your business.

Easier to sort out - The nice thing about business cards is that you don’t have to tie it in with your personal spending.  If you don’t have a separate credit card, you’re going to find out that it’s harder to keep track of spending.  This is going to make it hard on budgeting and accounting for yourself.  This is why it’s recommend to get a separate business card for your small business.

Control employee spending – When you have a business, you’re going to likely have employees.  If you do have any employees, you may want them to buy things for you once in a while.  Since you don’t want the employee to have access to your whole credit line, you can set their spending limits.  If you only want them to spend $500 a month, you can do this.  This make it easier for you, so you don’t have to worry about them abusing your credit line.

Get rewards – Most cards on the market that relate to business offer rewards.  Whether its for travel or simply getting a cash back credit on your statement.  If your business does a lot of spending month to month, it’s always great to get rewarded for your spending.  As long as you pay your bill off in full each month, you won’t have to worry about any interest rates or fees.  This is great for those that want to get extra perks like gift cards or cash back on their statements.

If you know how to manage credit cards, this is a great opportunity for your business.  Search around because there are plenty out there.  Do your research and you should be able to find the right card.  Use it responsibly and watch your business grow over time.
