8 Keys to Project Management Skills
Being a manager for anything takes a skill, and only certain people can qualify for a job like this. Whether you’re a manager today, or you’re thinking about becoming one in the future, these are the skills that you’re going to have to have to become successful with a career like this.
Can you manage change? When I say this, have you ever worked with a person that’s an absolute bum? These type of people need to change, and if you can change a person from good to bad, you’re already on the right path to success.
Can you see the future? A project manager needs to start a project from scratch, and take it to the end. Do you know how you’re going to start, and end your projects?
Can you make quick decisions? Decisions are an important part of anything in life. Whether you’re making a decision for dinner, or what you want to do for the day, it’s no different with a project. A manager needs to make a decision, and you need to make an educated one.
Can you have respect? A manager isn’t supposed to be a jerk, and have an elitist attitude. Instead, you want to bond with your employees. A happy employee is going to work a lot harder than one that isn’t happy.
More than personable skills: A good manager is going to know a little bit about everything. When you’re starting a project, make sure you know a lot about the project, and what each person does. This is going to help you out a lot more than if you don’t know anything at all.
Can you solve problems? Obviously, in a project management setting, you’re going to have to solve problems. When a problem arises, are you going to be able to solve it quickly, and the right way?
Have a stress free atmosphere: Stress shows, and if you push your stress onto your co-workers, or employees, it’s going to effect their workload. Watch your stress levels, and take breaks as needed.
People skills: The biggest trait that makes the manage are your social skills. H0w do you communicate with others? Are you good with certain situations? Can you get the point across?
Only certain people have particular management traits, and whether you own your own business, or you’re managing a group, it’s essential that you learn how to manage other people.
