6 Powerpoint Presentation Tips

No matter what business you’re going to be in, there may be a time when you either have to attend a presentation, or maybe you have to give a presentation.  If you’re the lucky one that’s going to give a presentation through Powerpoint, I wanted to show you some tips that you can use when wanting to give a killer presentation.

#1 Keep it Short

The first thing that you want to do is keep it short.  From what I’ve read, the experts will tell you that you should keep it less than 10 slides, as well as no longer than 20 minutes.  You don’t want to put the audience to sleep.  The point here is to condense what you want to get across in 20 minutes or less.

#2 Think Outside the Box

Don’t be cliche when you’re thinking of the corporation atmosphere.  You don’t have to go in there with your boring speech to appeal others.  Instead, you’re going to want to entertain and make it memorable.  Think back to any presentation that you have attended.  Do any of them stick out to you?  If they do, what made them memorable?

#3 Be Calm – Collect Yourself

It’s okay to be nervous, especially if you’re going to be speaking in front of a lot of people that you don’t know.  Instead of being nervous and talking very fast, it’s important that you watch your speed, as well as your tone.  Make sure that you slow things down.

#4 Don’t Read Word for Word

Nothing spells boring more than having someone up there reading the presentation verbatim.  You want to summarize your topics and make your spreadsheet appealing.  You don’t want to sit up there, and read a paragraph and again, put your audience to sleep.

#5 Prepare for Questions

There are always going to be questions.  While you can’t prepare for all of them, it’s important that you think of a response for each one.  If you can’t come up with an answer, are they going to trust you with your presentation?  Expect the worst and don’t freak out when you can’t answer a question.  If you can’t answer something, you can simply say something along the lines of, “I will get back on you with that”, or “Let me do more research, because I can’t provide you with that answer today.”

#6 Practice Makes Perfect

Oh, I know it’s cliche, but it’s so true.  Practice in front of the mirror, or even your family.  If you can entertain people that don’t know what you’re talking about, you’re going to be on the right path.

Just have fun, create something entertaining, and get your point across.  You’ll want to create some fun sideshows that are making the people crave the next one.  If you get people talking about your presentation a few days later, you know you created something that’s great.
