5 Ways to Find a Freelancer

In my line of work, I love hiring temporary help.  The last thing that I want to do is go out there and hire someone full time.  What I will find out after I hire that person is that I don’t have enough to keep them going for about 40 hours a week.

Freelancers are great because you can charge them for the work they do, you don’t have to provide them with benefits, and you’re still going to get the job done.

When I started out with freelancers, I really didn’t know where to turn.  I wanted to give you the tips that I have used in order to find the best freelancer on the Internet today.

But before we start with the sites to use, let me give you some pointers that you can use, in order to find the best.

  • Feedback score: Make sure that the freelancer has great recommendations, as well as a score.  I really don’t gamble with those that have a lower score.
  • Get a portfolio: No matter what you’re going to hire the person for, let them show you what they have done in the past.
  • Talk with recommendations: Sure, while the freelancer can fake things like this, it doesn’t hurt to ask them for it.
  • Don’t be cheap: It’s tempting to be cheap, but you’re soon going to find out that you’re going to get what you pay for.

Top 5 sites to use to find freelancers

  1. Elance: This site has the best of the best in my opinion.  Every freelancer that I have hired out of here has tend to be a great product that gets the job done.
  2. ODesk: This is another favorite of mine.  Its really easy to use and it’s a fantastic place to post your projects.
  3. GetAFreelancer: While its hard for me to find a quality based person here, I have found that you can find that hidden gem from time to time.
  4. Craigslist: Yes, this is a great free source to find qualified workers.  Post a job in your local area.  The cool thing about this is that may live nearby, where you can meet them in person if you have to.
  5. Niche job boards: There are a lot of them out there, but let’s say that you need a programmer in PHP.  Find PHP programming based sites.  There may be a good chance that there will be a job board that you can post on.
