10 Steps to Starting a Business
Starting a business requires many steps and while I can’t write about it in one blog post, I’m going to highlight 10 steps you should take in order to get on the right path when you’re looking to open up your own business. In the future, I will go in more detail on each point. In the meantime, if you want to learn more about each point, I would recommend you go more in depth with your research.
Get your idea – The first step and the hardest step you’re going to take is to think of what you want to do. There are endless opportunities. If you can’t think of an idea, try and think of things you like or explore other businesses online to see what’s hot in the market that can work for you.
Explore the potential – When you get your idea, do as much research as you can to see how much potential this business has. Are you going to start it in your neighborhood or is this going to be an online business? See how other businesses do. Always explore your competitors.
Create your business plan – The business plan is the most important part of your business and this shouldn’t be done in two minutes. Instead, plan on buying software and creating a very in-depth plan. It’s always easier to follow a path rather than doing it from the top of your head.
Name your business- This is probably one of the most important parts to your business, in my opinion. Naming your business is going to be what sticks with you when you get your business rolling. The best bet is to create something that’s brand able and sticks in people’s minds.
Register your business - Once you have your business plan set, you’re going to want to register your business with your local state authorities as well as the IRS. Depending on what you set up, it will vary on what you have to do in order to get it registered.
Get licenses and permits- Depending on what state your live in and what kind of business you’re starting, you’re going to have to check with your local authorities to see what kind of business permits you’re going to need in order to get your business started.
Pick your location – If your business is going to be ran from the house, you won’t have to worry about location but if you’re going to have a brick and mortar based business, your location is going to be crucial. Make sure you do lots of research when choosing your business location.
Finance your business – Starting up a business isn’t free. You’re going to have to decide how much you’re going to need and how you’re going to fund it. From small business loans to your own cash, make sure you know exactly where your money is going to come from.
Marketing – Another huge part of your business is going to be the marketing part. Since your business is going to be new, you’re going to have to get the word out. There are thousands of ways to get the word out. Make sure you do extensive research in ways to have reasonably priced marketing.
Open the doors - I know this is a short list but it should give you a great idea on what you should do in order to start your business. Once you follow these points, you should be on the right path in order to open up your doors.
Obviously, there’s a lot more involved when it comes to opening a business. It will take weeks to get your business running. Take your time, have patience, and take action. Most people don’t take action or have the good work ethics and this is what leads most businesses to fail.
